The Grove is sponsoring Third Street Elementary's second annual Olympic Games on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., to provide school supplies for homeless children in Los Angeles. In a day filled with good-natured competition for a worthy cause, students in grades K-5 will compete in Olympic-themed athletic events, gaining admission to the event by bringing backpacks donated by sponsors, filled with new school supplies purchased at their own expense. The backpacks will later be distributed to homeless kids in Los Angeles by "School on Wheels," a tutoring service for the underprivileged.
More than 400 students participated in last year's Olympic Games which resulted in 814 backpacks filled with new school supplies, valued at over $28,000. In addition to support from The Grove, the Tiger Woods Foundation has awarded Third Street Elementary a $2,500 grant in an effort to help the students meet their fundraising goal for this year's event--1,200 backpacks filled with school supplies and $12,000 raised for the school.
