DiscountSchoolSupply Provides School Supply Goods
Discount School Supply (discountschoolsupply.com) is "a store where teachers can shop for the school supplies they need without any cost to them. The program will initially serve teachers in schools that have at least 95 percent of their students on the free or reduced price meal program," according to their website.
Serving students and educators in South Carolina's Charleston area, the program was begun in 2006 to help families who don't have money to buy the school supplies their children need. It was also designed to help teachers who typically spent an average of $1,000 of their own money to buy classroom supplies that their $200 school stipend didn't cover.
The store gathers donations of "new and gently used school, art, and office supplies, excess inventory, slightly damaged merchandise, and outdated and tradeshow products from businesses, companies and individuals" and then makes them available for Teacher Shopping Days.
